Supporting Communities: Enhancing Canal Access for the Forth & Clyde Canal Society
At Mackenzie Construction, we take pride in supporting the communities we serve – especially when it comes to Scotland’s historic canal network. As a longstanding framework contractor to Scottish Canals, we’ve seen firsthand how these waterways bring people together, offering unique opportunities for leisure, recreation, and community engagement.
Recently, we had the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful project with the Forth & Clyde Canal Society, carrying out slipway upgrades and car park improvements at their canal access area in Kirkintilloch. The site is situated next to the historic Stables building – a former 19th-century coaching inn that once served horses and travellers along the canal – and holds significant heritage value. The area had fallen into disrepair and we were pleased to help restore it to a safer and more accessible condition.
We were delighted to receive some great feedback from Fiona at the Forth & Clyde Canal Society who shared:
“On behalf of the Forth & Clyde Canal Society we would like to express our thanks and gratitude for the work undertaken last week at the car park and slipway across from the Stables. This will make a huge difference to all our volunteers and customers who use that area.”
Mark Wilson, Construction Director at Mackenzie Construction added:
“This project reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the spaces that matter most to local communities. We look forward to continuing our work with Scottish Canals and community organisations to keep Scotland’s waterways vibrant and accessible for all.”
