Civil engineering

Mackenzie Construction has a long history of civil engineering and construction experience and demonstrates success in a number of disciplines from road construction to waterway and drainage works.

WATER INDUSTRY

Since our inception, we have engaged extensively with the water industry and over the years have successfully managed, and delivered, several significant frameworks for Scottish Water and its predecessors. More recently we have been successful in attaining frameworks in England with both Severn Trent Water and Northumberland Water.

Primarily these frameworks have been self-delivered by our multi-disciplinary teams. This has seen us deliver a full service from problem solving, scope definition, design price and then delivering the appropriate scope solutions.

DESIGN & BUILD

Our design and build expertise is focused on our Scottish Water Horizons framework delivery to increase drainage capacity and provide new water supplies for both private and public developers. Over the last 12 years we have worked in collaboration to deliver projects to interrogate the DIA Reports and provide extensive optioneering to develop the optimal solutions which includes a costed outline design programme and risk schedule. These are then progressed through to construction stage where we manage the whole process through to completion as Principal Contractor.

CANAL & RIVER WORKS

For over 10 years we have been engaged as a framework contractor with Scottish Canals to deliver a variety of projects in connection with the upgrade and refurbishment of civil elements along the canal network in Scotland. Areas of works completed include towpath upgrades, painting and maintenance at the Falkirk Wheel, hard landscaping upgrades, reservoir repairs and maintenance, lock gate replacements, embankment stabilisation, and canal infrastructure works to implement Glasgow’s ‘Smart Canal’ technology.

Our expertise in this area also includes flood prevention schemes within the river environment, fish pass installation and embankment reconstruction works, delivered on behalf or our local authority clients such as City of Edinburgh Council, Perth and Kinross Council and West Lothian Council. Delivery of these works demands a high level of environmental consideration, wildlife safeguarding and risk management in co-ordination with statutory authorities such as SEPA.

ROADS & BRIDGES

Since our inception over 40 years ago, Mackenzie Construction has specialised in road and bridge construction, repairs and reconstruction. This experience extends to construction of new roads, upgrading existing roads, junction improvements, road realignments, roundabout construction and footway upgrading in both urban and rural locations. Projects of this nature typically include surfacing, drainage works, kerbing, fencing, traffic management, lighting and white lining.

Recent bridge repair projects have involved repairs and maintenance to road and footbridges including painting, masonry repairs, deck repairs, culvert works all of which included temporary works with scaffolding, pedestrian and vehicular traffic management and surfacing.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS

Throughout the last 20 years, Mackenzie Construction has demonstrated an excellent track record in the delivery of external environmental improvement schemes on behalf of key clients like Glasgow Housing Association, ng Homes and Cube Housing Association. These works are primarily delivered within framework contracts involving landscaping repair and improvement schemes to gardens and back court areas within our housing association clients’ properties as well as other areas of urban landscape regeneration. Projects have primarily included ground clearance works, hard landscaping construction, car parking areas, fencing, soft landscaping and planting, new boundary walls and bin stores. Our priority with this type of works is to improve neighbourhoods so that they are cleaner, greener and safer for years to come.
