Mackenzie Construction Takes Fundraising to New Heights for WaterAid

In celebration of our 45th anniversary, we are excited to announce the launch of our celebratory Charity Partner Event, ‘45 Drops for WaterAid’.  On November 19th, our date of inception, 45 courageous participants will ascend inside the iconic Kelpies and abseil 100 feet back down, to raise vital funds for WaterAid to support clean water and sanitation projects around the globe.

Each participant will be challenged to raise funds, with the collective goal of raising £45,000 to make a meaningful difference in communities where access to clean water is still a daily struggle.

The experience promises more than just thrills. Expert guides will lead participants through the rich history of the canals and the engineering of the Kelpies, each weighing 300 tonnes and built from over 18,000 components. From climbing intricate ladders and cable crossings to choosing between a controlled abseil or a heart-pounding Quick Flight free fall, this event is not for the faint-hearted.

As the sun sets, the Kelpies will be lit up in blue, in support of WaterAid’s mission and all that they do.

Mark Wilson, Construction Director at Mackenzie Construction, commented, “Partnering with WaterAid allows us to support life-changing work that brings clean water and dignity to communities around the world. This event is a powerful way to mark our 45th year with purpose.”

Elizabeth McKernan, Senior Partnerships Manager for Scotland & Northern Ireland at WaterAid, added:

“We’re delighted that Mackenzie Construction is hosting this exciting event in support of WaterAid. It’s inspiring to see such creativity and commitment in action, and we’re confident it will be a fantastic occasion!

We all need clean water. Along with decent toilets and good hygiene, it’s the foundation for good health, dignity, and a life full of opportunity. Yet around the world, 1 in 10 people still lack access to clean water close to home, and 1 in 3 have nowhere safe to go to the toilet.

That’s why partnerships like this one are so important. Together with organisations like Mackenzie Construction, WaterAid is working towards a world where everyone, everywhere has access to these basic human rights.

WaterAid works with local partners in some of the world’s poorest communities to deliver lasting solutions, while also collaborating with governments to influence policy and drive systemic change.”

Mackenzie Construction is inviting employees, clients, and industry partners to join the challenge and take the leap in support of WaterAid.
