Scottish Water RCS Brora Sewer Replacement
Client: Scottish Water
Sector: Water
Project value: £219k
Location: Brora, Highlands
Mackenzie Construction were contracted by Scottish Water to design and construct a replacement sewer in Brora, servicing 8 No. properties.
The works were required due to the sewer backing up along the existing sewer network with other known defects identified along the route by Scottish Water between properties 1 and 8.
The scope of works included the design and construction of a 150mm replacement sewer, incorporating 9 No. manholes, 10 No. connections to existing properties and a tie into the existing sewer main. The works also required the abandonment of the existing sewer. All gardens and road space were reinstated as the works progressed.
Project challenges / highlights:
Due to the location of the works, we needed to maintain daily community liaison at site level. All Site operatives and Supervisors were positively engaged with the public / residents with the Contracts Manager receiving positive comments from the residents regarding our site team.
The works were challenging due to the small footprint of the works area and an abundance of uncharted services, including the presence of an asbestos pipe immediately above the sewer tie in point, which required specialised sub-contractor removal, which we successfully addressed within the programme.
2No of our CECA graduates were employed on the project receiving excellent mentoring from our site supervisors to enhance their experience and skillset allowing them to step forward on numerous tasks.
