The visitor carpark, adjacent to the reception building of the Inverness Campus, was originally developed in 2016, accommodating 100 No. cars plus disabled bays. HIE were looking to carry out upgrades to the carpark and appointed Fairhurst to undertake design works associated with the intended surfacing and drainage upgrades.
Mackenzie Construction competitively tendered the upgrades to the car park and works commenced in January 2025 and involved undertaking and element of design and subsequent construction and site management to undertake the following:
- Installation of traffic management to segregate the works area from the general public and ensure the safety of our site resources
- Excavation works to uplift the existing surfaces to allow for the new layout
- Through front end liaison with HIE and local third party contractor we recycled excavated material within the campus for future removing the disposal off site cost
- Installation of new kerbing in line and level
- Construction of the new parking bays with new Type1 and surfacing
- Construction of new grey concrete block paving
- Drainage working including gravel filter trench and Aco channels
- New Street lighting works with new posts and ducting
- Remove and reform 6 chicanes with granite set ramps
- Works were completed with new road markings
The visitor’s car park is now completed and open to the public and showcases our expanding civil capabilities within the Highlands.
